Pyrogallol (Pyrogallol Acid) , also known as pyrogallic acid, is an organic compound with the formula C6H3(OH)3. It is a white, crystalline, aromatic compound with a biting taste and is poisonous. It melts at 133°C and boils at 309°C. 
Pyrogallol is water-soluble, but samples are typically brownish because of its sensitivity toward oxygen. It is harmful if swallowed, harmful in contact with skin, and harmful if inhaled. Pyrogallol is used in photographic developing and in the manufacture of some dyes. It is the oldest photographic developer, its rapid deposition of silver from silver salts having first been noted in 1832. Alkaline solutions of pyrogallol absorb oxygen efficiently and are used in determining the oxygen content of gas mixtures.
