Polyquaternium-22 is a cationic cellulose derivative and water-soluble polymer commonly used in hair and skin care formulations as a conditioning, anti-static, and film-forming agent. It is chemically derived from hydroxyethyl cellulose modified with quaternary ammonium groups, giving it a positive charge that binds effectively to negatively charged hair and skin surfaces.
Polyquaternium-22 is particularly valued for its ability to improve hair manageability, reduce frizz, enhance shine, and provide smoothness. It also forms a protective film on hair and skin, which helps maintain moisture and improve overall texture. Compared to other polyquaterniums, Polyquaternium-22 has excellent wet and dry combing benefits and is highly compatible in mild, sulfate-free, and natural formulations.
