Benzene Sulfonyl Chloride (also known as benzenesulfonyl chloride) is an aromatic sulfonyl chloride compound with the chemical formula C₆H₅SO₂Cl. It is a highly reactive chemical intermediate widely used in organic synthesis and industrial applications.
This compound contains a sulfonyl chloride functional group (-SO₂Cl) attached to a benzene ring, which makes it very reactive toward nucleophiles such as amines, alcohols, and water. Due to this reactivity, it is commonly used to introduce the sulfonyl (–SO₂–) group into other molecules.
