Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is a naturally occurring protein composed of 53 amino acids that plays a key role in skin cell growth, repair, and regeneration. It was first discovered by Stanley Cohen, who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research on growth factors.
In cosmetic and dermatological applications, EGF helps stimulate the proliferation of epidermal cells, enhance collagen and elastin production, and accelerate skin renewal. By promoting cellular regeneration, it helps improve skin texture, firmness, and elasticity, while reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and damaged skin.
