Capsaicin is a naturally occurring active compound found in chili peppers (Capsicum species) that is responsible for their characteristic pungent heat or burning sensation. It belongs to a group of compounds known as capsaicinoids.
In pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, capsaicin is valued for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and circulation-stimulating properties. When applied to the skin, it works by interacting with sensory neurons and temporarily reducing the transmission of pain signals. Because of this mechanism, capsaicin is commonly used in topical pain-relief products, muscle creams, and warming cosmetic formulations.
