  • What is Octocrylene used for?

Octocrylene is an effective UV-B filter. UV-A radiation (320-400nm) is linked with the loss of skin elasticity, wrinkling, and premature aging, while the more powerful UV-B radiation (290-320nm) is linked to sunburn, cell damage, and cancer risk. Octocrylene is a well-established and highly stable UV filter for personal care applications, absorbing in the UV-B to short UV-A (280-350nm) range. Its particular strength comes from its ability to act as a UV stabilizer for other sun care actives, where it is used to boost the performance of both UV-A and UV-B filters in a sun care formulation.

    • Skin care: Octocrylene works well with other chemical sunscreen ingredients, particularly avobenzone. There are no ingredients known to interact with octocrylene negatively.

The ethylhexanol portion is a fatty alcohol, adding emollient and oil-like (water-resistant) properties.

Octocrylene works well with other chemical sunscreen ingredients, particularly avobenzone. There are no ingredients known to interact with octocrylene negatively.

Octocrylene is photostable, losing 10% of SPF protection in 95 minutes. It’s often used to stabilize other photos.

Sihauli Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. has gained regard among the prominent manufacturers and exporters of the best-quality cosmetic raw materials. Safety Profile of Octocrylene

Octocrylene can penetrate into the skin, where it acts as a photosensitizer, resulting in an increased production of free radicals under illumination. It may also pass through the skin, into the bloodstream, eventually being metabolized and excreted in urine in the form of its metabolites. Octocrylene can convert to benzophenone through a retro-aldol condensation. The reaction occurs slowly over time, yielding a significant concentration of benzophenone in all commercial cosmetics tested formulated with octocrylene.

    Octocrylene is classified as

    • Clear
    • Colorless
    • Viscous
    • Oily liquid
