  • What is Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate used for?

    Disodium lauryl sulfosuccinate (DLS) is a gentle surfactant that foams with water and cleanses the skin and hair. Surfactants are partly water-soluble and partly oil-soluble, which allows the oil and water-based ingredients of a formula to blend well, but also to be rinsed well.

    • Skin care:Depending on the concentration and formulation, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate can be irritating to the skin and eyes. Therefore, the CIR Expert Panel concluded that Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate was safe in the present practices of use and concentration when formulated to be non-irritating.
    • Hare care: No. It is a compound in which the sulfate ion has been replaced by a sulfonated ester, thus providing a safe, effective, and non-irritating cleanser. As opposed to sulfates which are small molecules, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate is a large molecule that cannot penetrate into the scalp or skin.
