Colchicine (CAS No. 64-86-8; Chemical Formula: C₂₂H₂₅NO₆) is a potent natural alkaloid derived from the Colchicum plant. It is used in pharmaceuticals to treat gout and inflammatory conditions and in agriculture and cytogenetics to induce polyploidy by interrupting cell division. It appears as a pale yellow crystalline powder.
